Addy ADD doesn't get caught. He just shows up — bouncing off the walls, three things in each hand, asking if you've got any stimulants, and somehow already across the room before you've finished the sentence.

And if you're reading this with a slight twitch in your eye because you've been chasing him your whole life, sit down for a minute. We need to talk.
The Substrate Question
We don't talk about ADHD on this brand. We don't diagnose it. We don't treat it. We don't have anything to say about whether your kid needs medication, doesn't need medication, has a "real" diagnosis or a "behavioral" one, or whether the school system, the pediatrician, the psychiatrist, your mother-in-law, or your cousin who has Opinions™ is right about any of it.
That's between you, the person it affects, and a qualified medical professional you actually trust.
What we DO talk about is substrate.
And here's what we keep noticing, the longer we work in this space:
A lot of the people who struggle with focus, attention regulation, mood stability, and getting-things-done function — adults AND kids — are running on inadequate methylation substrate.
Not because they're broken.
Not because they're lazy.
Not because they need to "try harder."
But because the raw materials their brain needs to make the neurotransmitters that govern focus and attention regulation are not actually showing up in sufficient quantity.
When the substrate is missing, no amount of catching the symptom works. You can swing the net. You can throw the lasso. You can try the planner, the app, the morning routine, the cold shower, the dopamine fast, the prescription, the rage, the bribery, the bargaining, the punishment, the time-out, the reward chart, the consequence chart.

What Methylation Has To Do With It
Let's get into the actual biology for a minute, because this matters.
Your brain runs on neurotransmitters. The big ones for attention and focus — dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin — all require methylation to be produced, regulated, and recycled properly.
Methylation is the process of taking a methyl group (one carbon, three hydrogens) and attaching it to molecules that need them to function. Your body does this billions of times per second. And it requires raw materials:
Folate (or methylfolate, if you can use it)
B12 (or methylcobalamin)
TMG (trimethylglycine — three methyl groups, ready to donate)
Glycine (the amino acid that helps regulate the whole cycle)
Magnesium (cofactor for hundreds of methylation-dependent enzymes)
Choline (alternative methyl source)
SAM-e (the universal methyl donor your body makes — IF it has the substrate)
When these raw materials are present and abundant, methylation works. Dopamine gets made. Norepinephrine gets made. Catecholamines get regulated. Histamine gets cleared. The neurochemistry of focus, attention, mood, and executive function has what it needs to operate.
When these raw materials are not present in adequate quantity — which happens a lot more often than people realize, especially in folks with MTHFR variants, methylation cycle SNPs, or just generally poor nutrient intake from modern food — methylation slows down. The downstream neurotransmitters don't get made efficiently. The clearance pathways don't work. The system tries to compensate.
And the person living in that body experiences the consequences. Foggy thinking. Inability to start tasks. Inability to STOP tasks once started. Mood swings. Sleep issues. Irritability. The whole Addy ADD chaos cascade.
The "Drugs Without the Drugs" Problem
Here's where we get to the part we have to be careful about.
A lot of people — adults and kids — who have inadequate methylation substrate end up on stimulant medications. Adderall. Vyvanse. Concerta. Ritalin. The list goes on.
These medications work — for a lot of people, in a lot of contexts, under appropriate medical supervision. We're not anti-medication. We're not telling anyone to stop their prescriptions. We're not telling parents their kid doesn't need what their doctor has prescribed.
What we ARE saying is this:
Stimulant medications force your brain to use the neurotransmitters it already has more aggressively. They don't make MORE of them.
If your substrate is inadequate, you're essentially asking your brain to squeeze harder on an already-empty tube. It works — for a while. Then the tube gets emptier. Then you need more. Then you need different. Then the side effects start. Then the tolerance builds. Then you're chasing the symptom with increasingly expensive, increasingly regulated, increasingly complicated tools.

We're going to share a personal experience here. This is one person's experience, not a clinical claim, not a guarantee, not a treatment recommendation. Your mileage may vary.
But here it is, plainly:
The formulator of this brand — the person writing this — has been taking DBAMTHFR consistently for a few weeks now. His SAM pool (S-adenosylmethionine — the universal methyl donor your body produces from adequate substrate) has presumably been restored to adequate levels.
The result?
His focus capacity is unreal compared to when he doesn't take it.
He hasn't been "cured" of anything. He didn't have a clinical diagnosis. He's just a guy with a fast-fast-fast COMT genotype, a double VAL configuration, and a brain that was always running ahead of itself.
When the substrate is restored, the brain that was always running ahead of itself can actually run with itself instead of against itself.

The "But What About My Kid" Question
We're going to be honest with you.
If you're reading this and you're thinking about your child — the one who can't sit still, can't focus, can't finish homework, can't stop interrupting, can't stop moving, can't STOP — we hear you.
We're not going to tell you whether to give your child a methylation supplement. That's between you, your pediatrician, and your assessment of your child's specific situation.
What we will tell you is this:
Children need methylation substrate just like adults do. Probably more, given that they're building brains, bodies, and entire nervous systems from raw materials.
Children eating modern food are very often substrate-deficient. Folate fortification doesn't help people with MTHFR variants. B12 absorption is variable. TMG, glycine, and methylation cofactors are present in nutrient-dense foods that most American kids don't eat enough of.
If your child's brain is struggling, the question worth asking — alongside whatever other medical conversations you're having — is whether the raw materials for healthy neurochemistry are actually present in their body.
We're not the people to answer that for your kid. But we are people who think it's worth asking the question.

Is the raw material actually there?
